Windows 8 — Less Talking More Doing

Siri does all the talking in Microsoft's latest Apple bashing spot for it's Windows 8 tablet. Apple's voice assistant apologies for not being able to run certain programs and perform functions..."I'm sorry, I don't update like that," she says. "I'm sorry, I can only do one thing at a time." Let's hope we've seen the last of the attack ads from Microsoft for a while.

Gentlemen PETA says "Stay Firm and Fresh" go Vegan

Gentlemen Peta is talking directly to you now with their latest ad campaign, if you want to stay firm down there you better go vegan. In honour of World Vegan Day PETA launched the "Stay Firm Stay Fresh video, which demonstrates the sexual benefits of going vegan by showcasing men enthusiastically and proudly showing off their manhood with various vegetables. Sorry PETA, I like my man with some meat. This ad would have been great for another campaign but it really sucks in this context.

Update: After watching it again, I hate it, sorry Fallon. Maybe if they used one decent looking man and not so many creepy looking dudes it would have been easier to stomach.

German Capital Cosmetics Create The Scent of Time and It Smells Good

The Scent of Time is a Fragrance Calendar created by Kim Weisswange of Capital Cosmetics. To celebrate the fact that she has been creating some of the worlds most unique fragrances for 25 years, Kim wanted to give something back to her loyal customers. As one of the world's most famous Perfumers (yes that is a real title and the correct term, Le Nez for our French visitors) Kim began wondering if it was possible to express time with a scent. The result of her curiosity is "The Scent of Time" and it's really just a calender.....sorry if you came looking for something earth shattering. Darling, is that Tuesday March 12th your wearing?

Pizza Hut Canada Ships Out Branded Perfume Bottles "Eau De Pepperoni"

Pizza Hut Canada seems to have a pretty good sense of humor, they've created their very own branded scent and are distributing it to their loyal fans who have supported them digitally on their Facebook page.

Only 100 bottles of the Pizza Hut perfume has been produced and sent out to the lucky Canadians. If anyone of you want to send me a note when you get your eau de pepperoni, sorry I mean your bottle of perfume — you have to let us know what this stuff smells like.

How did they come up with the right scent you ask...
"We did a couple of rounds … trying to get the right smell," said Pizza Hut Canada’s marketing director, Beverly D’Cruz. "All of them were not fun … Cheese. You’d think cheese smells nice. Not so."

Creative agency Grip came up with the idea to get more Canadians to engage with Pizza Hut socially.

Eric Vieira, director of digital strategy at Grip sums it up perfectly when he was quoted by The Globe and Mail saying "It’s delicious," and "I hope some poor guy doesn’t give it to his girlfriend."

  • The Barcode — Happy 40th

    The Barcode — Happy 40th

April 3, 2013 marked the 40th aniiversary of the bar code. The first product ever scanned using a UPC back in 1974 was a 10-pack of Wrigley's Juicy Fruit Gum at the Marsh Supermarket in Troy, Ohio. In honor of the 40th we thought it might be fun to compose a list of some creative bar codes in advertising.

For the UK's TigerTrust preservation charity a tigers stripes are made to look like a bar code. Created by ad agency Leo Burnett, Copywriter, Nick Bell and Art Director Mark Tutssel. I believe from back in 1998.

In France a Renault burns out a few barcodes in this print ad from Publicis Conseil, copywriter Serge Ficard and art direction by Pascal Midavaine.

Coca-Cola has a history of cute bottled shaped bar codes, this one from ad agency Chaitra Leo Burnett, India.

Soul Tattoo & Piercing in Brazil ran this IRA Communication created tramp stamp print campaign back in 2008.

The Belgian Federation of Food Banks asked us to donate a barcode and feed the hungry.

    Some where in Russia.

For those of us old enough to remember Mad Magazine, they weren't too pleased back in '78 so they ran this cover hoping to jam every computer in the country...Sorry Mad Mag, you're plan didn't work.

WTFU2012 Samuel L. Jackson Narrates Wake The F**K Up

Samuel L. Jackson narrates "Wake The F**K Up." It goes like this: a girl realizes her family, who back in 2008 were so involved in political campaigning, seems to have become a bit lazy about the whole thing this year. So Jackson steps in to help her convince these guys to get out and do something. "Sorry my friend, but there's no time to snore. An out-of-touch millionaire has just declared war. On schools, the environment, unions, fair pay. We're all on our own if Romney has his way. And he's against safety nets. If you fall, tough luck. So I strongly suggest that you wake the f*ck up."

Oldman suddenly cool, and down with the kids (+ Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland)

    The Dark Knight

BATMAN 3 TO START FILMING NEXT YEAR?!

I’m sorry if my overuse of capitals hurt your eyes, but really, your pain pales in insignificance compared to the prospect of Batman 3 getting underway next year!!! After the colossal success of The Dark Knight, rumours surrounding director Chris Nolan’s third Batman film have been flying out of every A-Lister's orifice. The latest comes from cast member and all-round stellar chap Gary Oldman who plays police commissioner Gordon in the films. Whilst taking part in a panel at Comic-Con with Denzel Washington and Mila Kunis to promote their latest film The Book of Eli, some ballsy person probed Oldman on the latest Batman 3 news. He had this to say:

“We’re starting filming on the next Batman next year. So it won’t be out for another two years at least, I think. But you didn’t hear it from me!”

Actually, Oldman, we did hear it from you since you’re the only semi-reliable person to dish anything about the movie in recent months. Hmmm, another two years you say? That would make a new Batman film due for release around 2012-ish which sounds about right considering Nolan is busy festering away on his latest project Inception. What’s that? Nolan is making a non-Batman film? Yes, kids, believe it or not he’s extremely good at it too. For those wanting to hear all about Nolan’s sci-fi actioner, stay tuned as I intend to post a full run-down on Inception in the next few days.

P.S. Breaking news y'all! The trailer for Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland leaked on the net last night and it looks radical! You can watch it in its entirety here. Considering this puppy isn't released in Australian cinema's until March 11 next year, I'm quite ecstatic to see a trailer this early. No doubt a longer version will be released closer to the opening date but as far as sneak peeks go this is psychedelic. You MUST watch. There has been so much hype surrounding this film and the atmosphere was elevated to frenzy this week when a bunch of new stills from the film were shown at Comic-Con (one of which is above). Early days yet, but this looks like it's shaping up to be one of the most original and exciting adaptations of anything in recent years. Not to mention much more faithful to the book which was about an acid trip. Burton's versions looks very much like an acid trip and I'm pretty sure I will try to eat my face if I see it in 3D.
