  • Brooke Shields "Shut Up" La-Z Boy Commercials

Brooke Shields "Shut Up" La-Z Boy Commercials

To commemorate La-Z-Boy's 85th anniversary, the campaign includes a TV commercial promoting a national sales event. "We're excited about this promotional spot and feel it's the perfect time to invite customers to come see our collection of customizable home furnishings, including sofas, sectionals, ottomans and more," said Doug Collier, Chief Marketing Officer and President International at La-Z-Boy. "The anniversary commercial celebrates our 85-year history by having a little fun with Brooke and poking some fun at ourselves, while showing our beautiful and unexpected home furnishings."

La-Z-Boy's agency of record, RPA, teamed with @radical.media Director Dave Meyers to create four TV commercials, a pair of online videos, four national print ads and other digital content.

The first TV commercial, which started airing in early August, "Big Deal/Anniversary Sale," opens on Shields in the midst of an elegantly decorated living room, calmly discussing La-Z-Boy's 85th anniversary sale. "Eighty-five years, that's a really big deal," she says. "They don't need some loud ad that screams 'sale!'- just me telling you about the great deals on gorgeous furniture." Just then, horns trumpet, balloons drop from the ceiling and a nine-foot tall flashing sign lit up with "85th Anniversary Sale" slides across the set. "Guys, I thought we weren't doing this?" Shields asks with a confused yet playful and cheeky tone.

"For a household name, Brooke maintains a down-to-earth, relatable persona that's genuinely approachable," said RPA CD Jules Fox. "The situational humor used in the campaign plays on Brooke's lighthearted personality and appeals to the sensibilities of our target audience."

"Shut Up" introduces an incredulous neighbor who yells "Shut up!" and punches Shields every time she learns that a new piece of furniture came from La-Z-Boy, inspiring the spooked spokeswoman to begin replying to her inquiries via text message from a safe location. Late 2012, the TV campaign continues with "Elephant," which demonstrates the advantages of previewing purchases with La-Z-Boy's online customization tool and stars a life-sized computer-generated elephant, and later "Neighbor" will air featuring a binocular-wielding snoop who cannot fathom the beautiful living room is all made by La-Z-Boy.

The TV commercials will run on more than 30 cable networks in the U.S. and Canada, including HGTV, Food Network, Lifetime, Oxygen and USA. Two online videos, a Q&A with Shields where the actress talks openly about working with La-Z-Boy and a flipbook, which rapidly cascades through La-Z-Boy-designed rooms, will live on http://www.la-z-boy.com/. Print will appear in a variety of publications such as "Better Homes & Gardens," "Country Living" and "Martha Stewart Living" and online units will run as pre-roll or banners.

DDB Canada launches arresting campaign for the Vancouver Police Foundation

Vancouver, August 6, 2013 — Recently, the Vancouver Police Foundation launched its first communications campaign aimed to increase awareness and garner support for the charitable organization. The Vancouver Police Foundation provides funding for emerging technology and innovative ideas as well as a wide range of community policing and youth-at-risk outreach programs not included in the police department’s annual operating budget.

Developed by DDB Canada’s Vancouver office, the goal of the integrated campaign is to raise awareness for the Vancouver Police Foundation and better connect the public to the police via a line of iconic, mirrored aviator sunglasses. These sunglasses not only serve as a visual symbol of support that Vancouverites can wear proudly, but they also play a central role to all of the creative aspects within this campaign.

“The iconic sunglasses pay homage to a signature look inherently tied to police and act as a badge of support that buyers can wear,” says Cosmo Campbell, executive creative director, DDB Canada. “This becomes an opportunity and conversation piece for Vancouverites to demonstrate their support for the police and look good doing it.”

The sunglasses play a primary role in two 30-second television spots, titled “Hoodslide” and “Deflated,” which kicks off the campaign and aims to drive sales of the sunglasses. Taking a humourous twist to popular TV police dramas, both spots drive viewers to buy the sunglasses in support of the Vancouver Police Foundation and visit the website to find out more about the organization and how proceeds benefit the community.

“In the short term, the goal of the campaign is simply to raise awareness for the Vancouver Police Foundation and show support for the VPD by wearing the sunglasses,” says Martina Meckova, executive director, Vancouver Police Foundation. “Our long term objective is to increase the membership of the Foundation and broaden the support base, so that more people in Vancouver can benefit from the work that we do in the community.”

A social media contest coincides with the campaign launch and invites people to submit photos of themselves wearing the sunglasses, along with the hashtag #VPDPartners for a chance to win a unique Ride-Along police experience. Symbolizing the solidarity between the people of the city and the Vancouver Police Department, the photos from the contest will be aggregated on the Department’s website as a visual tribute to the police officers.

“Initially, we asked DDB to assist us with some print ads to promote the Vancouver Police Foundation in a local paper,” says Peter Brown, chair, Vancouver Police Foundation. “The agency returned with an impactful campaign strategy that lends itself successfully across various mediums, allowing us to build a stronger relationship with the public.”

Print, OOH, television, social, digital, public relations and an on-air partnership with Global TV BC round out this integrated PSA campaign. The campaign was created pro bono by DDB Canada with generous support from the following production partners: Clinton Hussey for Photography, OPC // Family Style’s Director Jeff Low for the TV work, Post Pro Media for post-production services, Sean Milliken for talent casting, Wave Productions for audio services and Coastal Contacts for facilitating the production of the sunglasses.

The campaign also received help from DDB Canada’s media agency partner, OMD, who offered free services by arranging a combination of donated and discounted PSA buys with BC Business, Bell Media, CBS Outdoor, and Global TV, Postmedia, TV Week and Western Media Group.

The iconic, mirrored aviator sunglasses will be distributed by the police at community events, including Vancouver’s Fresh Air Outdoor Cinema, and are available for purchase starting August 1 from the Vancouver Police Foundation website for $20 each.

“The partnership between the community and police is fundamental to crime prevention and reduction efforts,” Brown adds. “It is through the Foundation that the citizens of Vancouver can support essential policing programs that may be beyond the immediate city budget capability, raise awareness of the outstanding contributions the VPD makes 24/7, and become partners in policing so together we can build stronger communities and make Vancouver the safest major city in Canada.”

National Geographic Rubik's Cube As A Cool Storytelling Device — The 80's Print and TV Ad Campaign

National Geographic Channels International has partnered with The Corner to create a global TV and print campaign for the launch of its two new series The ’80s. The Decade That Made Us and ’80s Greatest. The two series are an epic roller-coaster ride that offers an inside look at the political, technological, cultural and social revolution that created our modern world.

Using one of the most iconic puzzles of the 1980s, the Rubik’s Cube, as a storytelling device, the TV trailer highlights different images of world-changing innovations in the 80s, such as the internet, hip hop and mobile phones through the cube. In the spot, the cube is being masterfully played by UK Rubik’s Cube ‘3x3x3 One Handed’ champion Simon Crawford.

A Rubik’s Cube is also the centerpiece of a print campaign which juxtaposes 21st century and 80s images to show the evolution of the iPod and Spotify, and the fall of the Berlin Wall.

The 60-second TV ad launches this month all over the world together with an extensive multimedia campaign.

Emanuele Madeddu, Vice President of Creative and Consumer Marketing for NGCI, said: “In reacquainting viewers with the riveting moments of the 1980s, National Geographic Channel’s new series illustrate how the 80s truly shaped the way we live today – minus the shoulder pads. To capture this contemporary take on a decade that holds a unique wonder for viewers around the globe, The Corner and our in-house team developed a clean, strong concept with a clever and thoroughly modern execution.”

Tom Ewart, Founding Partner at The Corner, commented: “Sometimes the simple ideas are the best. Taking the ultimate 80s icon, the Rubik’s Cube, and using it to tell the story of ten dramatic years that changed our world, has created something wholly relevant and compelling.”

‘The ’80s. The Decade That Made Us’ airs in the UK on Sunday May 12th at 8pm on National Geographic Channel.

  • New IKEA "Living Together" Advert

    New IKEA "Living Together" Advert

IKEA is launching a new campaign in the UK and Ireland, titled ‘Make Room for Your Life’, which examines how good storage can improve your life at home. The work continues the brand’s new strategy to demonstrate an understanding of the everyday challenges that people face in their homes.

‘Make Room for Your Life’, which launches on 19th January, explores IKEA’s storage ranges and highlights a wide range of smart solutions for everyday storage problems. The campaign uses the insight that poor storage doesn’t just cause mess and clutter, it also affects our relationships and the people we live with. By illustrating the effects of poor storage, the new spot demonstrates that making room for your life through good storage can be the first step towards happiness and wellbeing.

The campaign launches with the TV ad ‘Living Together’ in the UK and Ireland on 19 January. The spot, created by the agency Mother, shows a couple kept apart by a maze of mess. However, thanks to smart storage solutions from IKEA, the couple can tidy their way through the maze, removing the clutter from their lives to finally meet across a KIVIK sofa bed.

‘Living Together’ features a cover version of the Bee Gees song ‘Living Together’ by the band An Escape Plan. Three versions of the TV advert have been produced and include 60” and 30” adverts that run until 23 March on TV as well as a full length music video running online at http://www.youtube.com/ikeauk. The campaign also features outdoor, press ads and two filmed documentaries that will be launching on 11 February on the IKEA UK YouTube page.

Peter Wright, IKEA UK and Ireland Marketing Manager, said, “With the second burst of our new brand campaign it is our ambition to continue the revitalisation and transformation of IKEA brand in the UK and Ireland. ‘Make Room for Your Life’ demonstrates our understanding of everyday life at home and the problems that a lack of good storage gives everybody. We hope to show that we are more relevant than ever to help with consumers’ everyday challenges and ultimately for more consumers to choose IKEA more often for their home furnishing needs.”

The campaign is also integrated into the IKEA FAMILY loyalty programme with a series of editorial-style e-newsletters, direct mail and product focused online content, created by agency LIDA. The emails direct members of the programme to further online content packed with ideas and tips to help them ‘make room for your life’ and suggest how they can cut out clutter and get sorted with storage in order to be more organised for the year ahead. They also give a taster of the new products launching in-store.

Freddy Mandy, Creative Director, at Mother, said: “The idea for the campaign came from the observation that mess and clutter in our homes keep people apart emotionally as well as physically. We decided to illustrate this in our TV spot which shows a couple unable to get to each other because their stuff forms a maze keeping them apart. They have to clean up their home in order to be together.”

“We all have that space in our homes that really isn't a space – it's a dumping ground. The direct mail piece homes in on this insight and shows that with a little help from IKEA's ingenious storage solutions, you might actually see that carpet again” says Nicky Bullard, Executive Creative Director of LIDA.

  • Target Makes The Grocery Isle Fashionable With 4 New Ads For The Everyday Collection

Target Makes The Grocery Isle Fashionable With 4 New Ads For The Everyday Collection

You’ll never think about Tide and Oreo Cookies the same way again, creative ad agency, mono teamed up with high fashion director and photographer Matthew Donaldson to amplify universal truths about everyday items to epic proportions with a suite of national ads for Target and The Everyday Collection.

Spot: "Matador" — Tonight's menu: sirloin steak, chicken breasts and pork, with a side of fierce. Welcome to The Everyday Collection by Target.

Is Target's grocery aisle ready for its close up?

Target is pushing its food, laundry detergent and other groceries in a national ad campaign that pokes fun at high-fashion advertising by featuring models interacting with everyday products.

In one ad, a model in a white dress and high heels struts by blueberry muffin and cake mix boxes that explode in different colors. Then she crushes an egg with her hand.

"Dominate that PTA bake sale," a voiceover whispers. "The Everyday Collection. By Target."

The campaign is part of a larger move by Target, better known for its cheap-chic clothing and home goods, to focus more on its grocery-store aisle. Wal-Mart Stores Inc. and other Target competitors also have been expanding their selection of groceries to lure more customers into stores.

For its part, Target has been expanding its grocery selection, particularly with investments in its "P-Fresh" fresh-food section. Out of its 1,782 stores, about 1100 have an expanded fresh food layout and more than 250 have a full grocery store.

With that push complete, Target decided the time was right to put the focus on its groceries, but in a way that still plays on Target's fashion know how, said chief marketing officer Jeff Jones.

Target, with ad agency Mono in Minneapolis, created the tongue-in-cheek campaign that treats groceries and home products like fashion accessories in a photo shoot. Spending is undisclosed on the ad campaign, but it will include eight TV ads that will run throughout 2013. In addition to TV spots and newspaper inserts, it will include eight TV spots, three radio ads, and digital short films that will run as banner ads online.

One TV ad shows an $11.99 bottle of Tide laundry detergent and a model in a white dress dancing fancifully.

"We all yearn for something," says a voiceover as bubbles float by the model. "And that something is the other sock."

The campaign "creates a foil for what people are used to seeing for grocery advertising," said Jones. "It combines the design ethos and fashion creditability that Target has with the idea that it also has great grocery items at a great price." article via: The Associated Press.

Spot: "Laundry" — Lose yourself in Tide laundry detergent. Who knows what you'll find? Give in to The Everyday Collection. By Target.

Spot: "Ravenous" — Pickles, Ruffles chips and other timeless cravings. Attack! Give in to The Everyday Collection. By Target.

  • Elmer's Glue "Let's Bond" TV Commercial

Elmer's Glue "Let's Bond" TV Commercial

LIMEY Directorial duo KN+SAW (Katrine Naleid and Stephen Austin Welch) have just completed a new TV commercial for Elmer’s Glue titled “Let’s Bond.” Comprising both the live action and a print campaign also shot by KN+SAW the project gave the directors their first opportunity to collaborate with the creative team at SBC Advertising on a national campaign in both mediums.

"Working with Katrine and Stephen through LIMEY was a pleasure from start to finish,” says Neil Widerschein, Chief Creative Officer, SBC Advertising. “They were exceptional collaborators throughout the process, helping us perfectly capture the fresh direction we're taking the Elmer's brand. The entire production — courtesy of LIMEY — was refreshingly absent of drama or unpleasant surprises. As a team, they were focused on our project from the very beginning all the way through editorial. We all absolutely loved working with them and would do it again in a heartbeat."

When SBC Advertising first brought their concept to KN+SAW, they were thrilled about directing a piece that would go from talking about glue to talking about creating memories that last a lifetime. “We were tasked with making very genuine moments, watching families bond over bonding. We directed these scenes to capture authentic moments — memories in the making — filled with a child’s pride and excitement, as well as moments Mom’s and Dad’s will cherish and enjoy forever,” relates Stephen and Katrine.

What KN+SAW achieved was capturing those moments and allowing the viewer to witness playful scenes when parent and child truly connect as they share valuable time making artistic creations enabled by Elmer’s glue. Allowing the viewer to identify and relate to that cherished, quality, family time of genuine, feel-good moments — a time and place of concentration, intrigue and laughter.

SBC Advertising had the ambition to shoot both the broadcast spot and a tandem still campaign. By hiring Katrine and Stephen to shoot both the motion and stills, they were able to give the client more production while saving time and money.

KN+SAW created a combo-shoot production that was not only cohesive but maintained all of its momentum and performances. The shoots were seamless, back- to-back productions (without the costly stop-and-start that that can take a toll on budgets.)

“We played to the strengths of the actors and crew,” explains Stephen and Katrine. “We created a calm vibe on-set, which was great for the child-actors and allowed for their natural enthusiasm to come through, thereby creating great imagery."

“When it came time for the still shoot, we already knew what would and would not work concerning the lighting, blocking and performance,” continues the Directors. “So we already had a head start on the day.”

The print division at SBC Advertising had actually wanted to work with Katrine as a still shooter for quite some time. They were huge fans of her lifestyle and kids imagery. Proving that all roads lead to KN+SAW, when the ad agency presented Katrine and Stephen to the client, Elmer’s, they were already familiar with the directing duo’s work and had actually even seen an internal presentation of the duo's directing reel to show the stylistic direction the agency wanted their TV commercial to take.

The advertising agency and directors were very keen to cast actual families, as well as professional actors to create the on-set families in order to make the moments and the performances as genuine as possible. The age range of the kids was from 4 to 8 years old, a particularly challenging but wonderful age. KN+SAW shoot a lot of kids and always make sure the perfect environment is created allowing the actors, both adult and child to develop this close and unique relationship with the directors.

“One of the on-set lines that cracked us up was a 4-year-old boy who said to us while rolling, ‘You know, I’m just really not a morning person!’ He then went on to deliver a great glue bottle squeeze! We were able to capture these real emotion moments and made footage that is truly authentic and fresh,” notes Stephen and Katrine.

“The agency showed great trust in letting us imagine and invent the specific props the kids and parents worked on,” conclude the Directors. “Everything we shot was 3-dimensional; and worked very well with the product and appeared quite textured to the camera and lighting. We created fish with fins and flowing tails; an octopus out of a paper towel core; the button art is priceless. Getting the biggest fanfare are the masks — robot for dad and the cutest little fire-breathing dragon you ever did see for the girl. We are collaborative directors by nature and creating our crafting props for this spot is a place this really shined.”

  • BBC Sport Advert for London 2012 Olympic Games

BBC Sport Advert for London 2012 Olympic Games

The trail is based around the concept of 'Stadium UK' — bringing the nation together in a huge Olympic Stadium to enjoy the BBC's comprehensive coverage of the London 2012 Games. Designed to be used across all the BBC's television, radio and digital Olympic content, it features the specially commissioned music First Steps by Elbow.

BBC comes under fire recently for their animated ad promoting the 2012 Olympics for copying the Lloyds TSB ad. Ironically both promotional spots were created by the ad agency Rainey Kelly Campbell Roalfe Y&R. The BBC’s trailer features the UK as a huge stadium with athletes preparing and competing for the Games which start on July 27.

Lloyds TSB’s ‘For the Journey’ adverts are known for their animated characters and utopian landscapes set to the classical piece Eliza's Aria by Elena Kats-Chernin.

The BBC advert featured cartoon swimmers in lanes created by buoys cast out by a fisherman, a BMX rider on a cliff edge and track cyclists racing around quarries.

Here's our new London 2012 TV ad (above). The ad brings together some of the favourite characters from previous Lloyds TSB adverts and shows how we're bringing London 2012 closer to communities all across the UK.

And, the ad features a new version of Eliza Aria, the great piece of music that's become as synonymous with Lloyds TSB TV adverts as the familiar voice of Julie Walters.

BBC 2012 marketing head Louisa Fyans said: ‘Animation enabled us to deliver to this brief and helped us create something really special for the BBC's London 2012 campaign.’

It was seen by millions – as Gary Lineker and his cohorts pulled in a peak of 15.5 million, averaging 13 million for the game.

The advert — which uses the tagline ‘wherever you are, never miss a moment with the BBC’ — will be used in the title sequence for the BBC’s Olympics TV coverage.

A Rainey Kelly spokesman said: ‘It is the culmination of a lot of hard work and we are very excited to feel part of the inspiration that this summer will bring.’

  • 2012 Honda Pilot "Road Trip" TV Commercial

2012 Honda Pilot "Road Trip" TV Commercial

A typical family hums to the music of Ozzy Osbourne's song Crazy Train in the new Honda Pilot TV ad entitled "Road Trip"."Road Trip" stars eight family and friends in the roomy Pilot, zooming down a stretch of desert highway. When one of the boys in the third row hits the note of "Crazy Train," the other passengers follow one by one, adding drum beats and sound effects until they're jamming with the full force of the tune. The spot will air during prime network programming such as "Dancing With the Stars," "Big Bang Theory," "The Biggest Loser" and the BCS National Championship.
"The campaign is built to generate awareness of this major vehicle redesign and to continue to differentiate this new, upscale Pilot from the competition," said Tom Peyton, senior manager, national advertising, American Honda Motor Co., Inc. "The advertising demonstrates the Pilot as a capable vehicle with legitimate seating for eight and a newly refined exterior."
"We knew the cast was going to be as integral to the spot as what they were singing. It was important to find actors, especially the kids, with a true love for the song," said RPA CD/Art Nathan Crow who teamed with CD/Copy Adam Lowrey for this campaign.
Aside from running on TV, the spot will appear on Honda's website and on YouTube and in-theater during November, taking advantage of the high-traffic Thanksgiving weekend. The Pilot campaign featured a YouTube home-page takeover in early October. Other online activations include rich media banners and home-page takeovers on CNN.com. Print media, which can be seen in "National Geographic," "Sports Illustrated," "Shape" and other titles, features a striking roasted-plum background and describes everyday adventures that are made better with the refined Pilot.Credits:

Horseware Rugs for Life — First Ever TV Ad Is Beautiful

In the beautiful land of Ireland is the hidden gem Horseware, a small but global equestrian brand that wanted to create the company's first ever TV commercial. The ad is simply entitled A Man and His Horse, a soft spoken voice shares his story of love in a poem all the while showcasing Horsewares' blanket line for horses without taking away from the stunning scenery.

Alex Calder of Horseware Ireland shared this about the commercial: "Without an advertising agency and with a very small budget we decided to make our first TV commercial. It's the story of a man and his horse. We wanted to show how that relationship can last a lifetime and how Horseware is an everyday part of it. The partnership between horse and rider is something that means a lot to a lot of people."

  • McDonald’s — ‘Great Tastes of America’

McDonald’s — ‘Great Tastes of America’

McDonald’s has launched a new campaign to promote their American-themed food event, the Great Tastes of America. The five week promotion, which starts on 1st May, offers a new burger a week, each one featuring a flavour combination that depicts a different American location.
Created by Leo Burnett, the TV and national press campaign, centres around the premise that the ‘Great Tastes of America’ promotion brings a little taste of America to the UK. The campaign focuses on American quirks appearing in our day to day lives. The 30 second TV ad shows some typically American people and icons, contrasted against some typically British backdrops. The ad shows a London cabbie looking bemused as he sees a sea of New York style yellow cabs around him, a fisherman somewhat confused by an airboatpulling out of a quiet canal lock and a team of cheerleaders performing an energetic routine at a cricket game, much to the bewilderment of on-lookers.
Each week the new burger on offer features at the end of the commercial, with an American idiosyncrasy unique to that burger’s theme unfolding inside a McDonald’s restaurant as bemused UK customers tuck into their food.
The TV is supported by a press campaign inspired by the American tradition of specially designed number plates featuring model making by Paul Baker and photography by Richard Maxted.
